Minimally Invasive Spine Surgery

Reducing tissue trauma, bleeding and risk of infection

Dr. Udani is a strong advocate of minimally-invasive techniques to treat degenerative diseases of the cervical and lumbar spine. These conditions include spinal stenosis, disk herniations, and nerve impingement. Most 1-2 level decompressive spine operations can be done on an outpatient basis when performed with minimally invasive technology and equipment. Certain fusions can even be done with just an overnight stay in the hospital. As part of the surgeon design team, Dr. Udani recently developed the Globus Quartex posterior Occipito-Cervico-Thoracic Stabilization system.

Dr. Udani is also a proponent of artificial disc replacement for the cervical spine. These devices are placed inside the disc space to restore natural height and remove pressure on pinched nerves. They are designed to allow the neck to maintain normal motion as well as inhibit adjacent levels from degenerating, thereby preventing future surgeries.
